Ink It
Stone's creations range from tattoo-style ink work to Hispanic cultural imagery. "Watercolor is an unforgiving media because if you make a mistake, you can't fix it," he says. "So it's unusual to see realism paintings in this medium. I also combine opaque watercolor with transparent watercolor and India ink."
The Laguna Niguel artist earned a degree in illustration and design from the Art Center College in 1978 and has been working as a painter for the past 14 years. (in the festival) He exhibits at galleries and cultural centers in California and Mexico, and has received numerous awards. On display at foaSOUTH: "Silke," depicting the back tattoos of a woman. It was purchased by the festival last year, along with four other paintings from his tattoo series. "I hope people viewing my work might see something different than what they're used to," Stone says. "I find it often a mistake to have certain expectations in regards to an exhibition, so I'm just going to hope for the best." by Wendy Bouman

*Gregg has retired from the Festival of Arts as of 2012 after 14 years participation. The Festival of Arts purchased only "Silke" Hiroko
